Great British Bake off Bets Halted By Ladbrokes
Great British Bake Off bets halted by Ladbrokes
Ladbrokes has halted wagering on BBC show the Great British Bake Off after a flurry of wagers stimulated worries the winner's name may have been dripped.
"A run of bets" was put for one contestant, numerous at stores in the Ipswich area, the bookie stated.
It is not known which baker prompted the flurry or whether any contestants have connections with the Suffolk town.
The very first episode of the popular amateur baking contest aired on BBC One Wednesday evening.
It is the 6th series of the program, which challenges 12 hopefuls to impress judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.
Every week the amateur bakers are anticipated to deal with a baking obstacle, with very little guidelines, and present a "signature dish".
'Soggy bottom'
The bookmaker said a flurry of bets came in for one of the 12 entrants whose odds began at 12/1 and were minimized to 6/1, 3/1 and after that evens.
"We provided rates on Monday and, nearly before the ink was dry, an uncommon variety of punters were in a rush to back just one participant," David Williams of Ladbrokes said.
"On Tuesday and Wednesday it was more of the same one-way traffic. That was enough to set our alarm bells calling and, as a preventative measure, we suspended our betting.
"Hopefully, we'll return up with revised chances sooner instead of later, but we didn't desire to get captured with our trousers took down and a soaked bottom, so we've decided to kick back till we are assured that Bake Off hasn't gone off currently.
"When you see a run of bets like this for one entrant at the cost of everybody else that can be a sign to suspend betting for a bit to examine the situation," he added.
