Bayelsa Queens Boost Squad Ahead of CAF Women’s Champions League Quest
Bayelsa Queens have kicked off a strategic squad reinforcement campaign ahead of their CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers, head coach Ogbonda Whyte has confirmed. Following a detailed review of their performance in the recently concluded NWFL Super Six, the team has identified key areas in need of strengthening.
"Definitely, we are already on it," said Ogbonda. "The team needs to be strengthened in areas where we discovered one or two lapses during the Super Six. Bearing in mind that we are going into Africa, we have to get the best legs to represent Nigeria."
As part of the reinforcement drive, Bayelsa Queens have begun approaching standout players from rival NWFL clubs. However, Ogbonda revealed that some clubs are hesitant to release their top talents. "We are only appealing to NWFL clubs to agree to release the players. Most times, they don’t agree, but we’re still on it and begging them," he stated.
The team’s preparations aim to ensure a strong showing on the continental stage, where they will represent Nigeria and attempt to strengthen the country’s position in African women’s club football.

Bayelsa Queens are doing what any ambitious team must do before a continental tournament: prepare, review, and reinforce. But what stands out in this moment is not just the technical intent—it’s the urgency and clarity with which the club is approaching its CAF Women’s Champions League bid. Nigerian football has always boasted talent, but it’s in structure and foresight that we’ve often fallen short. Bayelsa Queens seem determined not to make that mistake.
We applaud Coach Ogbonda Whyte for his openness. Identifying lapses publicly and acting swiftly to address them sends a message not just to rivals, but to fans and football stakeholders this is a team taking its mission seriously.
