William Hill advert connected betting to sexual success

An advert for a wagering company seen on the dating app Tinder has been prohibited for linking betting to sexual success.
The ad for William Hill, which was sent out as a message to users, read: "Stuck in the good friend zone? You will not be for a lot longer if you use this Cheltenham [horse racing] free bet offer."
It was followed by a link to download the William Hill app.
But the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) stated it needs to not appear once again in its existing type.
It said that, according to advertising rules, gambling advertisements need to not connect betting to "seduction, sexual success or boosted attractiveness".
"We considered that the text ... suggested that those who bet would be more likely to develop a relationship into a sexual relationship and for that reason connected gambling with sexual success," it said.
William Hill initially safeguarded the March advert after a consumer grumbled.
The company said consumers who signed up would "enter into a relationship with William Hill", and the advert was expected to relate this to the nature of business they were marketing on - Tinder.
It said it was not its intent to connect gambling to sexual success.
However, upon reflection it agreed the ad might have been misinterpreted and took it down voluntarily.
William Hill stated: "We take on board what the ASA have said about this particular advert and have eliminated it from flow."
Tinder meanwhile said it had examined the advertisement before publishing it, finding it was not socially irresponsible, offensive or targeting minors.
'Speechless'
Campaigners have actually been requiring harder regulation of betting marketing.
